While essential expenses are prioritised, enjoying life and staying socially connected are just as important for healthy ageing.

We previously explored discounts and benefits that help seniors and caregivers manage everyday essentials, including transport, groceries, and healthcare.

Beyond these daily needs, there are also opportunities for seniors to stay active and enjoy meaningful experiences at a subsidised cost. In this second part, we’ll look at discounts and benefits for recreation and dining, so you can enjoy quality time with your loved one.

While HNF doesn't officially endorse or sponsor any specific businesses mentioned, we’ve included a few examples as a helpful starting point. The information in this guide is accurate as of August 2026.

Recreation

If you're looking for great wheel-chair accessible places in Singapore, most national museums, parks, and community centres offer excellent, low-cost or free recreation for seniors. Take your loved one to these places for a short outing:

1)    Local Museums

In hot weather, going out to a quiet, air-conditioned space is a great way to take a slow and calming trip.

Entry to all permanent galleries at Singapore’s national museums (like the National Museum of Singapore, Asian Civilisations Museum, and National Gallery) is 100% free for all Singapore Citizens and Permanent Residents. Exhibitions change regularly, so you can look out for new ones that might interest your loved one.

  • National Museum of Singapore: The building, galleries, and facilities are all wheelchair-accessible. Refer to this map for all the museum’s access-friendly entrances. This video showcases the various accessible entrances.
  • Asian Civilisations Museum: The museum has two accessible entrances at the Front Entrance and River Entrance with ramps leading to the Museum Lobby.
  • National Gallery Singapore: The building has an accessible drop-off point at the Coleman Street Entrance, which is sheltered and step-free.

2)    Parks and Gardens

Spending time in serene, natural surroundings helps seniors reduce blood pressure and anxiety while uplifting their mood. It’s a good idea to take your loved one out to one of Singapore’s numerous nature parks and attractions once in a while if the weather is good. This guide provides some tips on how to plan a safe outing for your loved one.

Remember to bring along their PAssion Silver Concession Card for discounted transport and for verification.

  • Gardens By The Bay Senior Citizen Promotion:
    -    Entry to the outdoor gardens is free. Seniors aged 60 and above enjoy a discounted rate of just $8 to the Flower Dome. With their PAssion Membership privileges, they enjoy 10% off this admission ticket price, meaning they could pay as little as $7.20. Simply present the card at the ticketing counters for verification.
    -    Passengers in wheelchairs enjoy free shuttle service around the Gardens, and staff will assist you with helping your loved one board.
    -    Furthermore, if your loved one holds the DDR identity card, Public Assistance card, or Public Transport Concession Card for Persons with Disabilities, they may receive free admission, and up to two accompanying caregivers can also enjoy a 50% discount on admission.
  • National Orchid Garden: Local Seniors aged 60+ can visit the Orchid Gardens for $1. The garden is mostly accessible for wheelchair users with multiple ramps and wide paths. Since the gardens are large, it’s recommended to take a taxi to the Tyersall Entrance for the closest access to the gardens and to minimise your pushing and walking distance compared to getting off at the nearby MRT stations.

The taxi will be able to enter from the Singapore Botanic Gardens Tyersall Gate

When the taxi pulls in, the drop-off is farther down on the right.

This is the drop-off point. After getting off, walk further in to reach the National Orchid Garden.

3)    Community Centres (CCs) and the Healthy 365 App

The People’s Association (PA) and Health Promotion Board (HPB) often run programmes and classes for seniors aged 50+ at neighbourhood community centres.

Under the Live Well, Age Well initiative, seniors can access a library of free and subsidised classes held at CCs. These include low-impact group exercises. like chair yoga and resistance band training.

You can book these programmes via the Healthy 365 App. Find step-by-step instructions on how to use the app for booking here.

4)    Movies and Entertainment

Major cinemas in Singapore offer senior movie discounts priced between $4.50 and $5.00. They are typically valid for movies on weekdays before 6:00 PM, excluding public holidays. You must buy the tickets in person and provide a valid senior identification card.

  • Golden Village Senior Discount: $5 for 2D and 3D movie tickets, valid from Monday to Friday before 6 PM for seniors aged 60+.
  • Shaw Senior Discount: $4.50 for a 2D movie ticket, valid from Monday to Friday before 6 PM for seniors aged 55 and above.

Besides movies, you can also consider bringing your loved one for various free or paid cultural performances at the Esplanade.

  • Esplanade: You can use the SG Culture Pass to pay for tickets to performances. For example, some of the latest performances at the Esplanade include classical music (6 Aug 2026), covers of Cantopop (20 Aug 2026) and 1980s rock/disco songs (14 Sep 2026). Browse the latest culture pass-eligible events and view steps to pay with your SG culture pass credits here.
  • Esplanade Coffee Morning & Afternoon Tea: A monthly concert series paying tribute to English and Mandarin oldies. Some shows are free, while others require a ticket (price starts from $21 onwards). Browse the latest events here.

Tips for caregivers to make activities easier:

Tip #1: Visit during quieter periods

Seniors may feel anxious, disoriented, or overwhelmed by loud noises and tight crowds, and this can be particularly difficult if your loved one has dementia.

To ensure the best experience for them, visit the attractions during non-peak periods or specially designated quiet times.

For example, the National Museum of Singapore has designated the first Saturday of each month (9 am to 11 am) and the first and third Thursdays of each month (9 am to 12 noon) as Quiet Mornings. The galleries are open an hour earlier for visitors who want a quieter, more relaxed environment, and it’s recommended for seniors.

Tip #2: Look for places with senior or dementia-friendly programmes

Some attractions may have senior-friendly programmes or tours. For instance, the National Museum of Singapore hosts senior-friendly programmes for seniors with mild cognitive impairment and dementia. Explore their full list of programmes here.

Tip #3: Consider renting a wheelchair on-site

If your loved one can still walk short distances but finds standing for long periods difficult, consider renting a wheelchair on-site (such as the Gardens by the Bay wheelchair rental in the photo above). Most of the attractions mentioned in this article have wheelchair rentals. You can bring your loved one to various places within the attraction without worrying about long distances.

Renting a wheelchair can also be helpful if your loved one uses a motorised or bulky wheelchair that may be difficult to bring around in outdoor parks and uneven ground. For instance, Sentosa provides beach wheelchairs for rent, which are specially designed for stability on sand and allow your loved one to fully experience the beach.

How do you rent a wheelchair? For most of the attractions, you can simply approach information counter staff to request for a wheelchair rental. These are the fees and methods of rental for the attractions listed in this article:

  • Gardens By the Bay: Rent a wheelchair at $2 a day from the Arrival Gift Shop, Canopy Ticketing Counter, and/or Floral Fantasy Ticketing Counter. Simply approach any of their on-ground staff at these locations to request a rental. Wheelchairs must be returned by 8.30pm on the same day.
  • National Museum of Singapore: Wheelchair rental is free, on a first-come-first-serve basis. You can request a rental at the information counter upon arrival or try calling ahead before your visit to reserve one.
  • Asian Civilisations Museum: Wheelchair rental is free. You can loan one by approaching staff at the Visitor Services Counter.
  • National Gallery of Singapore: Wheelchair rental is free, and you can loan one by approaching the staff at the information counters near the Coleman Street entrance.
  • National Orchid Garden (and the National Botanic Gardens): Wheelchair rental is free, and you can loan one by approaching staff at various Visitor Counters all across the gardens from 8am to 5.30pm daily.

This guide provides quick tips for planning a safe outing for your loved one.
